The Gooney Bird, Locating Complex Structures in Space - page 6
step15.jpg (17811 bytes) The door (blue line) is centered horizontally on Station 480.00 and vertically with the bottom of the visible structure. To locate it use one of the 165.00 Water Line guides and snap it to the 480.00 station. With that line selected add a portion to the top that extends outboard at –30.00 degrees (constrain the line) until it intersects the side of the 479.00 rib (magenta line). Move the door until it is visually centered horizontally and even with the bottom of the aircraft.
step16.jpg (16016 bytes) The aircraft walls are curved and you must modify the sides of the door to conform. Use the Node Edit Tool to change each of the side segments to a curved line and modify them until they agree with the curved surface. Complete the door by applying a contour of 0.06 inches inside (3 inches full size). Separate, ungroup and fill the outside or the door (frame) with white. Delete the guideline.
step17.jpg (6546 bytes) In the next section of the C-47 all of the ribs are the same. Since you would not get much out of positioning all those ribs we will skin this section. Duplicate the last rib at Station 410.50 and reposition it at: Water Line = 165.00, Butt Line = 0.00, Station Line = 156.5. Remember that you must break apart the curve to get the center snap to work. You will also need the ribs that will show through the opening. They are at Stations 177.50, and 195.50.
